Sunrise wedding on Ocracoke Island with Mary Chandler & Brandon
There wasn’t a better way to witness Ocracoke Island for the first time than by documenting this sweet intimate wedding. Truth is, this was my very first time visiting the Outer Banks of North Carolina. After experiencing the raw beauty this coast offers, it surely won’t be my last.
Mary Chandler and Brandon found themselves facing a situation countless couples have also faced head on this year. Their Summer destination wedding in the Outer Banks, postponed due to safety & travel restrictions brought on by the global pandemic, Covid-19.
Although the big celebration has been postponed to next Summer, MC and Brandon still decided to have a small ceremony, including only their immediate family. Upon deciding where this should happen, the couple agreed on something. What better place in the world than the one they hold closest to their hearts. Where they were engaged. Where they were supposed to celebrate with the big party. The one and only, — Ocracoke, Island.
I remember taking the Ferry from the mainland out to the small island. My senses took everything in. As a Florida native who moved to the middle of North Carolina, my heart longed for this time with the sea once again. The salty air creating mist around my lips, the wind running wildly through my hair. I was already beginning to understand the allure of this place. So far away, yet so at home.
The early morning came quickly after a long day’s travel. I was able to meet the couple just before sunrise, a slight rainy dew accompanied the intimate moments of their first look. This first part of the day set the tone for what was going to be a beautiful sunrise wedding on Ocracoke Island, regardless of how small the occasion actually was. It was a big moment for everyone there.

I finish this with great optimism that 2021 will greet us with open arms and full parties in celebration of the ones we missed out on this year. I look forward to sand beneath my feet and sweet vows of love renewed on this very island, a year from the moments we witnessed here. Enjoy this sweet love story and keep in mind, it’s not over.
