Pilot Mountain is always on my list of favorite engagement session locations in Winston-Salem. When I showed Kyle and Lauren this area, virtually, since they live in VA Beach, they automatically saw the same beauty and diverse scenery that the area offers. Basically, all the parts on why I love this location so much! Also, it doesn’t hurt that it’s only 20 min away from Downtown Winston-Salem, where I live!

We started the session at the summit overlook upon the opening of the park at 7:00 AM. The thing about shooting at Pilot Mountain, is that you HAVE to be willing to get up early, especially right now. “Why, Chelsea?” You may be asking. Well, a few reasons. Let me share:

Firstly, because we are currently in Phase 2 of the reopening plans due to the global pandemic, Covid-19. With this, the park is at a strict capacity level. This capacity limit is much lower than the normal guest count. Believe it or not, these days, by 9:30 AM, the park is at total capacity for the entire day! Getting to the park as early as possible ensures that we are able to smoothly have our session (and avoid any crowds). This is great for my clients (& my own) safety in these uncertain times. It also gives us free roam for the best locations without any photo crashers. :p

In addition to the capacity restrictions and safety aspects, arriving early to Pilot for a session ensures that we will have beautiful light! I’ve been to this location both at Sunset and Sunrise plenty of times. I have to admit, as much as I’m a sunset lover, you can NOT beat the morning light at Pilot Mountain. This is especially when it comes to photos. If you want to shoot here with me, be prepared for me to suggest an early wake up time!

Enjoy these images! I had such a great time with Lauren and Kyle and I cannot wait to head up to VA for their fun wedding in 2021!
