Love in the city. Catching it. Showing it. Making two people in love stand out amongst the towering buildings, passing cars, pedestrians…and yes, as you’ll see — garbage also. It’s the challenge that brings me joy. It’s the faces of those pedestrians I mentioned before as they walked by puzzled at what’s going on; why I have my camera throwing out commands and bad jokes–until they realize the occasion and screams of “Congratulations!” resonate around everyone as they walk away smiling. It’s those cars I talked about; waiting for the white light to signal us across the street while I stand in the middle of the road snapping photos of those lovers running across the walkway hand in hand laughing at the idea of what’s happening. It’s those buildings that surround us, as we sneak into alleyways to capture the moments alone; the textures and the color of the architecture that force my need to use exactly that as a backdrop. It’s the garbage…that I try to avoid in images as much as possible, but how it also reminds me of the fact that this is my reality. I get to showcase love in the greatest city in the world. A little garbage doesn’t ruin that feeling.
